FAQs about hotels in Salamanca

An Ancient University Town with Fascinating Culture

In the south-west corner of Castile and Leon, the Spanish city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old City is one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe.

Situated next to the border with Portugal, Salamanca has unique architecture including Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. The Old Cathedral dates from the 12th-13th centuries and joined together with the 16th-century New Cathedral.

One of the most charming squares in Spain, Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca and an excellent example of Baroque architecture. Enjoy a walk around the exterior terraces, savour an ice cream or relax in one of the picturesque restaurants.

Founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218, the University of Salamanca has more than 3,500 international students and teachers. Known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, the university houses a huge library with more than 150,000 invaluable volumes.

Booking.com offers a great variety of hotels, guest houses, hostels and apartments to choose from. Salamanca Airport is 15 km away from the city and is easily accessible by public transport.

Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit. We stayed 3 night and were able to see everything we wanted without rushing. It is a walkable city. We came by train and left by bus. We used the local bus only once, and that was to get to our apartment. We were there during Easter weekend, so reservations are important. Great restaurants and food.

Salamanca has a very important role in the history of medieval philosophy, being one of the oldest continuously matriculated schools in the world, where Jesuits and Dominican friars debated about the universe and the rights of men, where Cervantes studied, and where inquisitors were honed. Well, a good background reading is a must rather than simply becoming a passive guest of this ancient city (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salamanca).

Salamanca is a beautiful city for urban tourism. It has the right size to walk around, forgetting about cars and walking without getting too tired. The historical visits to monuments are numberless and the gastronomy very good. There are vegetarians options in many restaurants and several restaurantes with vegetarian tapas at very cheap prices.

Everything we read about this hotel lived up to expectations! From the moment we arrived (valet service, check in etc) up until we left was remarkable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and warm and every request we made was met. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The place is beautiful…it’s the perfect place to be if you just want to relax and escape from the busy City life. The breakfast was one of the best we’ve had in Spain and we had an incredible fine dining experience during dinner. Will definitely be back!

The location can’t be beat-perfect central apartment. It’s less than 5 minute walk to Plaza Mayor. It’s minutes from the university! Jose Felix answered our messages quickly both before coming to Salamanca and during our stay. The extras we really noticed- tea, coffee, sugar, water - that was all very kind. There was washing machine detergent and plenty of toilet paper. It was very welcoming on arrival. Thanks for a great stay! I wish we could have met so we could thank you in person.

Everything! We had a fantastic room again, as it was our 2nd visit to the Alameda Palace, it included a separate area for 3 piece suite. The decor including the en-suite was top notch in classic rather contemporary style. Great view of the park across the road, and a pleasant roof terrace with small pool. The hotel is a very pleasant 10/15 minute stroll to the Plaza Mayor which must be the most beautiful in the whole of Spain

Well up to the excellent Paradores standards for comfort and relaxing ambience. Stands across the river with great views of the old town. Easy to find and with plenty of parking, which we appreciated after an overnight flight and drive from Madrid. We didn't sample the hotel restaurant this time, opting for the beautiful, lively town centre. The price was very fair for the excellent quality.
